Popular entertainment website Variety is reporting that Henry Cavill (Man of Steel, The Tudors) has been officially cast as Geralt of Rivia from The Witcher series of books by author Andrzej Sapkowski. The series, currently in development by Netflix, is not an adaptation of the popular video games by CD Projekt Red, but rather a retelling of the books.
The initial order for eight episodes is a good sign that Netflix has every confidence that the series will be a hit.

Whilst this is good news for fans of the franchise, there has already been a backlash against his casting with some fans threatening to boycott the series.
Time will tell if Cavill, a self-acknowledged video games fan, will live up to the role.
For those curious as to what Cavill could potentially look like in the role, comic artist Patrick Brown recently mocked up such an image which you can find here https://www.instagram.com/p/BmSiApoBysa/?utm_source=ig_share_sheet&igshid=196zc83lomhkb
The series is due sometime next year.
